Your product is great.Your message is not.I fix the second one.

A decade-plus freelance means I've written for an unhinged luxury cookie brand, a company that 3D-prints teeth, and a home care agency guiding families through the hardest week of their lives — all in the same week. I pivot voice fast, build the systems underneath the copy, and measure whether any of it actually worked.

What I was handed
CalAIM Services California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) is a multi-year initiative by DHCS to improve the quality of life and health outcomes of our population by implementing broad delivery system, program and payment reform across the Medi-Cal program.
What I shipped
Home Care At No Cost To You If your loved one has Medi-Cal, they may qualify for personal care, homemaker services, and respite care—completely free through CalAIM.

Same offer. Same regulations. Same legal review. Only one of them tells an exhausted daughter she can stop paying out of pocket.

About

Born with the gift of gab and trained to put it down on the page. An old-school scribbler with a modern toolkit.

I got here by way of a broadcast journalism degree and thirteen years of being handed categories I knew nothing about. Dental 3D printing. Medi-Cal eligibility. Beard oil. The job underneath is always the same: find out what's actually true, work out what the reader needs from it, and write the version they'll finish.

I don't hand off copy and hope. I build the system underneath it — HubSpot, nurture flows, lead capture, attribution — because a great sentence in a broken funnel is a hobby, not a result. I'll push back when the brief is wrong, bring data to the argument, and hit the deadline anyway.

Based in Dana Point, California. Two kids, and a beer-league hockey habit that has me on the ice at hours no reasonable adult should be awake.

Home care · Orange County

A home care agency with a real service, a real staff, and a website written like a compliance document. I rebuilt the voice, resequenced the pages, and built the machinery underneath — HubSpot, attribution, a 19-email nurture library, a 130-article roadmap.

The hard part wasn't making it warmer. Medi-Cal eligibility language is regulated, and a page that overpromises free care is a liability. The rewrite is a reordering, not a softening.

Dental 3D printing

I had no clue what digital press stereolithography was before I started writing about it. Now I write it for dentists — an audience that fact-checks every claim and has a financial stake in the answer.

Every stat sourced, nothing hand-waved. The job is translating hard engineering into here's what changes in your practice Monday morning, then building the SEO around what practitioners actually search instead of what has volume.

Luxury DTC cookies

The voice behind the brand. I named the cookies, wrote their stories and tasting notes, and wrote the entire website. Then email and SMS for a drop-model business, where scarcity is the product and the calendar is the campaign.

The part I'd point a creative director at: I built recurring campaign franchises instead of one-off sends. A drop business runs out of novelty fast. Franchises give it a publishing calendar.

Approach

Four things I keep doing

Lead with what the reader gets, not what the thing is called

Program names, product names, category names — that's what the business calls it. Almost nobody arrives searching for them. The name can wait until there's a reason to remember it.

Plain language is not loose language

In clinical, dental, and regulated categories every claim gets sourced before it ships. Simplifying the sentence and softening the fact are different operations, and only one of them is my job.

Sequence is an argument

The order of sections tells a reader what the company thinks matters. Rewrite the words, keep the org chart in the page order, and you've fixed the tone while leaving the problem.

Ship the measurement with the copy

Attribution, call tracking, and a baseline set before launch. Otherwise the next conversation about the work is a matter of opinion, and opinion loses to budget.

AI in the workflow

I use Claude for research synthesis, structural drafting, and pressure-testing angles — then edit every line. In technical and clinical categories the model is a starting point, never a source: claims get verified before they ship. The judgment about what's worth saying is still the job.

Healthcare, technical, and regulated categories are where I'm most useful. But the actual skill is being handed an unfamiliar category and building its voice fast — which is most of what a contract creative gets asked to do.
